      Last night I had the privelege at presenting at the <a style="TEXT-DECORATION: none" href="http://www.cmap-online.org/"><strong>Central
      Maryland Association of .NET Professionals (CMAP)</strong></a> in Columbia, MD. I
      was invited to speak on <a style="TEXT-DECORATION: none" href="http://www.dotnetnuke.com/"><strong>DotNetNuke</strong></a>,
      and it turns out that I was the presenter on the evening when they celebrated their
      7th birthday.
   </p>
        <p>
       
   </p>
        <p>
      CMAP is a wonderful user group. They are very active and have found lots of ways
      to support the developer community in Maryland. Their management team of <strong>Randy
      Hayes</strong> (no relation) and <strong>Chris Steen</strong> are well known and well
      respected in the DC Metro user group community. Unfortunately, both Chris and
      Randy were at the Microsoft MVP summit in Washington state. However, <strong>Ed Mullin</strong>,
      the president of <a style="TEXT-DECORATION: none" href="http://www.baltomsdn.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=0&amp;tabid=1"><strong>BaltoMSDN</strong></a>,
      a developers user group in Baltimore, MD, deftly handled the mast of ceremonies role,
      while Randy Hayes' wife, Kryselin (??), assisted as hostess. I was warmly received
      by the group, and appreciate them inviting me to speak.

      If you missed <a href="http://www.capitaldug.org/Announcements/tabid/750/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/59/Wednesday-Oct-15th-Are-You-Agile.aspx">Quentin
      Gilbert's presentation on Agile Development</a>, it is hoped he will give it again
      during one of the upcoming Code Camps. I have known Quentin for over a dozen years,
      and he has always been a great developer who was consumed with building quality applications,
      but he has come into his own as a speaker and practioner in Agile Development. 
   </p>
        <p>
      The thing I like about Quentin's presentation is that he mixes theory and experience
      together. No project runs perfectly, and there is much to learn from mistakes as well
      as successes. 
   </p>
        <p>
      Antonio and I welcomed the opportunity to have Quentin speak since Agile project management
      can be used not only for software/application development but also to manage the implementation
      of a web 2.0 content-management system. Our user group aims to support discussions
      not only on development but also on managing of DotNetNuke (and other content management
      systems, like SharePoint).

      I was doing a review of content management systems, and came across a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_content_management_systems">surprising
      reference </a>on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page">Wikipedia</a>.
   </p>
        <p>
      What surprised me was the large number of free <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_management_system">CMS</a> products
      there are, and that most are written in PHP. The reference also goes on to group commercial
      products into low (&lt;$5k), medium ($5-15k), and a high ($15&gt;) categories. At
      the low commercial end, the split is between .NET solutions and PHP solutions. 
   </p>
        <p>
      At the high end, surprisingly to me, was the predominance of all the Java solutions. 
   </p>
