First blog entry for March 2009!

Mark this one as problem solved.

I am working on a project that uses ASP.NET Master Pages. I added an Ajax ModalPopupExtender to a Content page, but it was not rendering properly.

The modal panel was displaying at one location, not at the center of the page, and the shadow was displaying somewhere else. I discovered that the following DOCTYPE declaration was missing from the Master page.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">

Now the modal is displaying properly.

We have Chris Hammond coming to talk with us at the Capital Area DotNetNuke User Group (http://www.capitaldug.org) meeting this coming Wednesday, May 21st. Chris is a core team member of the DotNetNuke development team.

This will be a great meeting for those interested in developing DotNetNuke Modules!

The meeting starts at 7pm at the ATT offices in Tysons Corner, in Vienna, Virginia.

I need to have access to the Microsoft Office Interop files which are typically installed in the GAC. You cannot just reach in and copy these out like normal files, but look down at Matthew Cosier's entry on this site for a workable solution.

SharePoint Tip: Where to find the SharePoint Assemblies for development

Thanks to Kim at JHHC for suggesting that it could be done fairly easily. As ususal, she was right.

I was doing a review of content management systems, and came across a surprising reference on Wikipedia.

What surprised me was the large number of free CMS products there are, and that most are written in PHP. The reference also goes on to group commercial products into low (<$5k), medium ($5-15k), and a high ($15>) categories. At the low commercial end, the split is between .NET solutions and PHP solutions.

At the high end, surprisingly to me, was the predominance of all the Java solutions.
